Handmade leather journal step by step.

Handcrafted leather journal is unique and it will always stay by your side.

Crazy Horse Leather.

Also called oil-soaked leather. It is soft, wrinkle-free, antique and highly resistant to water. It gives you a smooth feeling when you touch it. With a special kind of wax applied on the surface, it allows the coloration of the leather surface to change if rubbed without the colors immediately reversing back.

Handmade notebook.

Firstly, before cutting the leather, choosing the most suitable size for yourself.

Traveler’s notebook has 3 size:

6.5 “x 4.3 “

8.6 “x 4.7 “

And for this journal, I’m making the size 8.6 “x 4.7 “.

Looking at these 2 photos, they are the preliminary finishing leather.

Actually it’s very important to polish the edges of the leather. It can make the edges of the leather smooth and look more beautiful.

Choose the right position and punch

The position of the holes:

UP 2 holes, DOWN 2 holes, Middle 1 hole.

Thirdly: cutting a small leather and punch 2 holes. This small leather is for protecting the journal edge.

Fourthly, using one elastic to go through the up and down holes and knot at the bottom.

Here is the methods for putting the refills paper inside.

In the photo I have only put 3 inserts. But actually if you need, you can put 4 inserts.

Finally, now the handcrafted leather journal is finished.

Hope you will like it.  And if you are interested of this and want to make one, just have a try. If you have any places you don’t understand, just contact me. It’s my pleasure to help you and solve the problems.
